TOP SECRET -- FIT FARE COMING:
A fast-food restaurant purporting to serve healthy hamburgers
and low-fat french fries is coming to downtown Houston.
California-based Topz has leased
space in the ground floor of Commerce Towers, a high-rise
condominium building at 914 Main.
The Topz menu offers lean double
cheeseburgers, Ahi fillet sandwiches, air-baked fries, chicken
dogs and smoothies.
"They cater more for those
wanting a healthier burger than the everyday
grease-dripping-down-your-elbow burger," said Stephen Schorr,
real estate broker with NAI Houston, which negotiated the lease
for Topz.
Topz creator Mark Avila opened
the first location in southern California in 1998 to serve
healthy cheeseburgers with 50 percent less fat than his
fast-food competitors.
The Houston restaurant, a
franchise, is expected to open by the end of the year.
"They also like to be located
near health clubs," said Schorr. "That's the type of clientele
they're trying to serve."
